HOW WE TACKLED THE BRIEF GIVEN TO US

Brief

AIDS/LifeCycle is a fully-supported, seven-day bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles.

It’s a life-changing ride—not a race—through some of California’s most beautiful countryside. AIDS/LifeCycle is co-produced by the Los Angeles LGBT Center and San Francisco AIDS Foundation and is designed to advance their shared interest to reduce new HIV infections and improve the quality of life for people living with HIV/AIDS. As part of this event, thousands of people participating as either Cyclists, Roadies, Volunteers, or Virtual Cyclists raise critically needed funds for HIV/AIDS-related services and bring to light the fact that HIV/AIDS is still a devastating disease in our society, particularly the LGBT community and communities of color.

We were approached by a graphic designer from ALC and asked to submit a design for their official event safety mascot. Since it is a cycling event and the mascot was to be the official spokesperson for road safety, we decided to make it a road safety cone…and that’s how Coney, the Safety Mascot came to being.
